Finished reading: Dogs of War by Adrian Tchaikovsky π
Oh my, what a book. So much more topical than I’d expected, Tchaikovsky captures the psychology of dogs (I trust his interpretation as he studied this to quite a depth) and how it could be mixed in with tech, society, and the human condition.
I’ve gone straight into the sequel Bear Head, itself an amazing and more direct representation of the present day challenges we have in society.
Back to Dogs of War and Rex. A must read IMHO for anyone interested in tech and society.
It has left me with one question to verify, Honey (a Bear-based Bioform) explains to Rex their intelligence comes not from brain size but the number of components within the brain.
IIRC Tchaikovsky starts by explaining how he started writing this, it was just about Rex and grew into something much more.
" In an interview, Tchaikovsky says that one of the book’s main themes is: “a sort of extreme iteration of societal control, the idea of βcollaringβ someone so that they cannot say no.”" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogs…
